Hurry Up and Wait
If I could list catch phrases for adoption, hurry up and wait would
be towards the top of that list.
September was a “hurried” month.
The paperwork was endless and deadlines were given and met. Then October, November and most of December
seemed to be silent months. We had a
couple of hiccups that were addressed.
This is part of the process of adoption.
In the middle of December, we were finally able to move Micah out
of his orphanage into private foster care.
He was very sick when he moved.
You will see in the picture below that he was extremely
malnourished. He had malaria, typhoid
fever, jiggers and parasites. Now a
month later he is making amazing progress.
He is gaining weight, happy and in great care. In January, we were finally able to get our
judgement from court to declare him legally our son!! Let me tell you that was
the best New Year’s gift we could get.
This past week we were able to book Kevin’s flight to go and visit
and file paperwork. He will be in Africa
in the middle of February. He will not be bringing Micah home but this is the
final step to complete in the process. March and April will be quiet months again but
we are praying and believing that May will be a month of celebration. In November, Mason had some medical issues
come up. Kevin and I decided then that
only one of us would be able to travel and the other one would need to stay
with Mason and Allie. So I’m sending
Kevin with strict instructions:

We know this is going to be a time where Father and Son can bond
together. This will be Micah’s first
experience knowing an earthly father.
I’m so grateful God chose Kevin for that roll.
I have journaled quite a bit throughout this journey. I look forward to sharing with you some of
the details about Micah’s precious life.
As we continue to move forward, we see the lessons God is showing
us. Adoption is not easy! You put a lot on the line however the rewards
far outweigh your bank account, emotions and fears. God is in the miracle
business. I think the miracle of adoption
is God’s earthly picture to show us the grace He poured out on the cross.

Our precious son Mason was born 6 year ago with a difficult diagnosis. We have watched his little body endure 14 surgeries, countless hours of therapy, difficult hospital stays. Yet through each challenge he has a smile on his face and joy in his heart. (For real!!! this is not a mom comment. Adorable Allie girl came to us through the gift of adoption. We are blessed beyond measure that God placed her in our family. She is spicy, spunky and loves well. I could not ask for a better sister for Mason. Our adoption journey was difficult but She was worth the wait.
Micah's story is still unfolding. We are in the process of adopting him from Africa. God brought him into our lives at a baby shower through a friend. We had never given international adoption a thought because of Mason's medical needs. There was something about his smile that pierced our hearts. As we began to pray, we watched God move mountains. Our journey is not over yet and we are excited to see what the next several months have in store for our family.
As you read through this blog, let me worn you that I am NOT A WRITER!!! If grammatical errors drive you crazy..... Brace yourself!! I am a women that loves the Lord with all her heart. I've learned that authenticity and vulnerability is the only way to surrender my fears. My heart has broken numerous times over the past six years. I have had to die to dreams yet through that I have watched God lovingly pick me up and take me on a beautiful dance. There is no place I would rather be than dancing in the arms of God.
To our Friends and Family,
We are excited to share what God has placed on our hearts. While
attending a baby shower last January, my friend Andrea shared a picture of a
little boy whom she had met doing mission work at an orphanage in Africa.
Andrea said, “I know you’re not interested in international adoption, but this
little boy needs a home.” International adoption is not a road we ever
desired to walk. It would be hard to leave Mason and Allie for any length
of time to travel abroad (as is required for international adoption),
especially given Mason’s various medical needs. And yet, there was
something about this little boy’s smile that captured my heart. I went
home and shared his picture with Kevin. We agreed to commit this little
boy to prayer.
One night while I was praying God gave me these words “Our
road will have twists and turns, highs and lows, but through it My hand will
guide you. My grace is enough. You are not going to rescue a child;
rather, YOU are going to be rescued … rescued from the things that appear safe
and organized. Your heart will open to the things that break mine.”
I knew at that moment that this little boy was going to be our son.
Over the past nine months our journey has been everything
that God described to me that night. There have been valleys and
challenges at every turn in the road. However, in August, our lawyer gave
us the green light and we have watched God move mountains. Documents and
processes that typically take months have been solved in days.
In February, we will travel to meet our little Micah.
We will be staying with him for 10 days and filing his U.S. Visa. We will
also be moving him out of the orphanage into private foster care, which will
assist with his ultimate transition into our family. We cannot give Micah
a forever home without your help. We are asking our friends and family to
come alongside us and help in three ways, as you feel led.
First, we are asking that you pray for Micah. Over the
past nine months, he has had malaria twice, as well as jiggers and parasites.
Each of these maladies have been treated successfully. Please pray that
God protects Micah’s little body. Please also pray for his heart as he
transitions to different environments over the months ahead.
Second, please pray for Kevin and I as we navigate this
road. We’ve already seen miracles that only God could have
accomplished. We are in awe of how he has orchestrated this process.
Finally, we need your financial help. We have already contributed $20,000 to the
adoption. The entire adoption will cost
